RAW SHOWCASE PROVOCATIONS: Part 1

IT'S HOT - SHORT FILM

The evening kicked off with a short film It's Hot by Stewart Reeves written by himself and Sean Dennehey. Dennehey also acted as the main character in the film. The audience were first presented with the image of someone scooping his fingers in a tub of Western Star butter. The noise this made was unparalleled  and I can't imagine anyone not squirming at the thought of gloopy butter under their fingernails. Even more startling, he then proceeds to rub the butter all over his bare chest. The film started with the signature line "It's hot". As the film progressed, it became apparent that it was all in rhyme. The dialogue was witty and well timed and had the audience laughing at its absurdity. It's Hot packed the comical punch that only a short film can deliver.

Who doesn't love a party with great live music, DJ sets, artworks and rocking performances?! The 2high Festival is throwing a pre-party at The Box this Saturday 13 October to give an exclusive preek of what's to come at this year's festival.

I know what you're thinking, really Maddy, musicals? But if you are a dance and broadway music enthusiast like me, you will understand the brilliance of the choreography in these moments. So I give you my top 5 musical moments!

CARMEN by LANA DEL REY

It’s always interesting to see what direction artists take in composing the accompanying video clip to a great song. Maybe it will be a story told through a literal interpretation of the lyrics. Or if you’re Lana Del Rey, maybe there’s a pre-existing formula that your film clips take. 

The video for her latest single Carmen is a compilation of short clips, not dissimilar to that of her hit Video Games. However, unlike the former, Carmen tells more of a story that reflects the lyrics. Lana Del Rey portrays the illustrious girl depicted in the song perfectly. It's believable that it's actually her and she's singing about herself, the girl that everyones wants to be.

She gives them butterflies

Bats her cartoon eyes

She laughs like God,

Her minds like a diamond.

A collection of beautiful and nostalgic imagery, Del Rey’s flawless face also makes appearances throughout. Whilst it may just be collection of short clips, it's arranged extremely well. The video even has a beautiful outro to finish it off, and ends with the French word Fin. For all those lucky enough to see Lana Del Rey grace the stage at Splendour at the Grass, it will be exciting to see what she brings to performance.
